Currency futures while liquid do not represent moat of interbank fx moves. However many of the AMT principles you will learn will apply and more importantly you may completely switch to futures purely cause you have more underlying data to have an edge.

Another aspect to think is this...

Fx trades on both Futures and spot. But there is no way to trade spx or ndx. Even cfd trades you take on SPX is offset by your broker with Futures. Spy and qqq are also offset by market makers with Futures and remaining book is settled at MOC orders.

So in essence index Futures is more representative of closer to all the participants that move that market and with orderflow you can see xray vision of what is going on.
